Founder's Message

Dear friends, supporters, and community members,

The journey of BASTA Education and Help Foundation Society began with a profound realization. Tribal communities constitute 8.2% of India's total population, and in my home state of Chhattisgarh, every third person belongs to this community.

After closely witnessing the ground realities in the rural and tribal areas of Chhattisgarh, I became determined to do something for these people. I saw their struggles in their eyes, felt an unseen pain, and in that very moment, resolved that I must do something for this community. I had to ignite a new ray of hope in their lives.

BASTA is the beginning of bringing these visions to life. It is not just an organization; it's a commitment to bring about change and build a better future.

It was disheartening to see a large segment of our society struggling with poor health, especially women, and the situation in tribal areas was even more severe. A widespread lack of awareness, limited access to education, and the grip of centuries-old superstitions and social evils prevent many from realizing their full potential.

The statistic that 68% of tribal women in Chhattisgarh still use old clothes during menstruation is not just a number; it's a stark reminder of the urgent need for change and better health education.

This harsh reality became the driving force behind BASTA. We envisioned an organization that wouldn't just address immediate needs but would lay the foundation for lasting transformation. Our goal is to break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy, and discrimination that has marginalized these communities for generations.

In this direction, we've launched the 'Aarug' initiative, which is working to break taboos associated with women's menstruation. For this, we are striving to provide reusable sanitary napkins and spread awareness through workshops.

We firmly believe that an educated and aware woman can empower her entire family and, by extension, the whole society.

Our commitment is to uplift those who have long been neglected. Through education, health initiatives, awareness campaigns, and skill development programs, we aim to bring tangible improvements to their lives. We are focusing on areas like women’s health and menstrual hygiene, tribal community empowerment, skill-based education for dropout children, and environmental responsibility.

BASTA's journey is more than just providing services; it's about developing a mindset for an inclusive, equitable, and progressive society. We are dedicated to building a 'Viksit Bharat' where every woman is empowered, every child is educated, and every citizen is aware and capable of contributing to the development of our nation.

With hope and determination,
Vinita Patel
